呼啸山庄英文读后感一Published in 1847，WUTHERING HEIGHTS was not well received by the reading public，many of whom condemned it as sordid，vulgar，and unnatural--and author Emily Bronte went to her grave in 1848 believing that her only novel was a failure.It was not until 1850，when WUTHERING HEIGHTS received a second printing with an introduction by Emily' s sister Charlotte， that it attracted a wide readership. Wuthering Heights gives me a cold, withering, and lonely feeling however,at the end the book the author shows us that the human kindness is not diminished at Wuthering heights, even though the wind can break off a tree that doesnt mean it can break off the whole forest. Even though hatred destroyed Heathcliff , Catherine, Edgar and Elizabeths happiness, that doesnt mean Cathy and Haretons happiness.Actually, there is no such a character I really like in Wuthering Heights, every character seems teemed with agony and animosity, especially Heathcliff. Heathcliff is an orphan before Mr.Earnshaw adopt him, and in the novel, it says that Mr.Earnshaw treats Heathcliff even better than his own son, Hindley Earnshaw. Its quite amazing that in spite of Earnshaws nice treatment, Heathcliff has no gratitude at all, he revenged Hindley and Catherine, even their heirs. After reading Heathcliffstory, my feeling is complicated, although he is the avenger who dominate the whole story by using his vengeful machinations, he is also the most pitiful guy in Wuthering Heights he doesnt know what is love and dont know how to love. Heathcliff has lived with the Earnshaws for more than 10 years, but there is no attachment between him and the whole family except Catherine, but even Catherine who was died because of Heathcliffs tournament. When he is torturing others, he is also giving himself a suffering.Catherine, who is the heroine in the book, is described by Nelly as capricious and selfish.
